City of Compton Renames Street for World-Renowned West Coast Hip-Hop Entertainer

Compton Street Renamed in Honor of N.W.A. Hip-Hop Artist Eazy-E (Eric Lynn Wright)

COMPTON, CALIFORNIA—On Wednesday, November 22nd, a formal renaming ceremony will take place for Auto Drive South Street, which will be renamed Eazy Street in honor of the late and renowned entertainer Eazy-E. Eazy-E, known for his contributions with the legendary music group N.W.A., has become a global brand and legacy. Even posthumously, he continues to contribute to civic engagement in the Hip-Hop culture, charity, and community aspirations for Compton residents and countless others around the world.

The Eazy Street dedication marks a significant milestone in the City’s recognition of Hip-Hop culture, coinciding with its 50-year anniversary celebration. The event acknowledges the positive global impact and local contributions of Hip-Hop to Compton, representing an unprecedented formal recognition by the City for this influential cultural movement.

Produced by the Compton Entertainment Chamber of Commerce (CECC), the ninety-minute program will feature formal remarks, with Alonzo “Lonzo” Williams, the Godfather of West Coast Hip-Hop, serving as the CECC President.

Lillie P. Darden, Mayor Pro Tem and Councilwoman for District 4 emphasized the importance of documenting Eazy-E’s legacy in the community as the lead sponsor for the Eazy Street sign installation. Compton Mayor Emma Sharif hopes that a greater respect for traffic safety will be instilled in visitors to Eazy Street, encouraging them to take it easy when driving through the City of Compton.

The street sign dedication will include presentations from the Mayor and Councilmembers of the City of Compton, the family of Hip-Hop artist Eazy-E, and contemporary music artists. The new Eazy Street covers an approximate distance of 511.90 feet (156.03 m).
